Chaotic scene after crash at weekend robot

One person was removed by emergency workers who used the Jaws of Life following a chaotic accident.

The intersection known as the weekend robot was cordoned off from all sides following a head on collision yesterday afternoon.

Local Community Policing Forum members of Sector 8 and 4 along with Dowry, an emergency reaction unit, rushed to the intersection after VW Polo and a Land Cruiser collided at around 2pm on 13 September.

All the roads leading to the intersection which included Barrat Road, Chamdor Road and both sides of Voortrekker Road were closed to make way for an emergency helicopter landing.

It is believed the two vehicles collided as the Polo attempted to make a right turn at the intersection.

The Mogale City Emergency Management Services along with paramedics from ER24 and Netcare 911, Mogale City’s Traffic Department and the police and EPR were called to the scene.

Occupants, one a child, of the vehicles obtained multiple injuries during the accident.

The occupant in the front passenger side of the Polo was removed from the wrecked vehicle by means of the Jaws of Life and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

The accident scene was described as chaotic by the CPF first aid responders who assisted in helping cordon off the road and clearing the scene.
