[VIDEO] 62-year-old instructor pumps up police

At their annual Spring Day Fun Run, Krugersdorp's police officers warmed up with the help of a 62-year-old aerobics instructor.

A surprise awaited those who participated in the annual Spring Day Police Fun Run – a 62-year-old aerobics instructor was ready to lead the warm-up.

And apparently her age does not define her fitness level.

Bipuo Manake from Kagiso is a regular at the Krugersdorp police stations as she trains the officers in aerobics classes.

At the Spring Day Fun Run on 4 September she made sure everyone was warmed up properly.

The fun run was held in conjunction with Casual Day and in support of persons with disabilities. About 1 000 R20 stickers for the day were sold to police officers, President Hyper employees and the general public. President Hyper hosted the fun run and also donated gift packs to children at the Baby Moses Child Sanctuary.

“It’s not a competitive race, but a friendly eight to 10 kilometre walk to the Krugersdorp Game Reserve from President Hyper,” Constable Lucky Matome, police spokesperson said.

The annual fun run was started eight years ago by Brigadier Henry Mollegai, Kagiso Police Station commander who also participated on the day.

“It started rather small, but this year we had a big turnout,” Tony da Silva, President Hyper’s general manager told the News.

General Anna Mateisi and Amdy Mashaile, Provincial Community Policing Forum chairperson also added to the excitement of the day.

Next year, police are anticipating an even bigger fun run.
