Neighbours tip-off: two arrested for unlicensed firearms

Communities riddled with crime, might have had enough, and are now giving tip-offs to police.

Two suspects were arrested for being in the possession of unlicensed firearms after a tip-off from the community.

The 20 and 27-year-old were both arrested in the Ga Mogale Informal Settlement on 26 August at around 4.30pm by Constables Ndlhovu and Sithole.

The police were given a tip-off from one of the residents of Ga Mogale who saw the suspects loitering around the area and clearly with a firearm in their possession.

“The members immediately followed up on this information and upon their arrival in Ga Mohale, they quickly traced the suspects and found them in possession of the firearm,” Condtable Rebecca Phithi, police spokesperson, said.

“We need criminal free communities and the South African Police Service members are really working hard in making sure that criminals get arrested. The fact that an unlicensed firearm was now removed, is a positive action in preventing the current spate of police killings.”

The Station Commander of Magaliesburg, Lieutenant Colonel Morebodi expressed her satisfaction with this positive arrest. She voiced her appreciation with the dedication and hard work of these members as well as the commitment by the community who provide positive information regarding criminals in their area.

This is the second arrest of this nature in Ga Mogale in Magaliesburg the News reported on this month.
