[VIDEO] Local gym targeted by armed robbers

CCTV footage show the armed robbers entering a gym in Monument and tying up a trainer and her two clients.

Five armed robbers stormed into a popular gym last night (13 August) on Voortrekker Road and fled with goods and a gun.

A personal trainer at the Aroeka Gym was busy closing up the shop with two clients at 6.40pm when the armed robbers stormed in and instructed them to lay on the floor.

CCTV footage shows the robbers taking off the three hostages’ jewelery as they laid down on the ground with their hands above their heads.

The third robber is then seen entering the gym with a bag of cable ties, and started tying up the three women.

The robbers then started raiding their gym bags and the shop.

It is believe the robbers took jewelery, cellphones and a gun from the shop before fleeing.

The owner of the shop, Susan Fourie, was not in the gym at the time of the robbery and told the News that she coincidentally logged onto the CCTV footage camera from her phone when she made the shocking discovery of her shop being robbed.

Fourie immediately contacted the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum who arrived minutes later along with Thompsons Security, Chubb and EPR.

This is the second robbery in Voortrekker Road in less than a week.

Businesses in this street are warned to take extra precaution as this area is currently targeted by armed robbers.

“I am just grateful that no-one got hurt during the robbery. Thank you so much to the CPF and security companies along with the police who responded to the call-out,” Fourie said.
