[PHOTOS] Head-on collision in Luipaard Street claims one

One man died in a collision between two cars in Luipaard Street this morning.

One man lost his life while another man was injured during an accident at the intersection of Luipaard Street and Munsie Avenue this morning (13 August) at about 11am.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a light utility vehicle and motor vehicle were involved in a head-on collision. Both vehicles came to a standstill on the roadway, affecting traffic in all directions,” Santi Steinmann, media liaison officer of Netcare 911, said.

Mogale City’s Traffic Department and police officers were on scene along with the Fire Department, who freed the 32-year-old deceased with the jaws of life.

“Sadly the man had died due to the extensive injuries sustained during the crash and he was declared dead at the scene by members of the fire department,” Steinmann added.

The 36-year-old driver of the light utility vehicle sustained serious injuries during the collision and was treated on scene and transported to hospital.

Exact details surrounding the cause of the accident are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
