Pensioner robbed in CBD

An elderly woman was robbed by four suspects after exiting the bank in the CBD.

Four suspects were arrested for robbing a pensioner who was withdrawing money at an ATM in the CBD.

The arrest followed after police were notified about a robbery in the CBD by a witnesses on 1 August.

It is alleged the suspects followed the 72-year-old victim after she exited the bank.

“As she was walking along the street she was approached by an unknown vehicle with four suspicious occupants,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police, said.

The suspects quickly grabbed her handbag before speeding off.

Members of the community saw the incident and immediately called for help when they spotted a police patrol vehicle nearby.

Police quickly followed up and chased the vehicle through town.

The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled by foot before police closed in on them.

Four suspects were apprehended by police and arrested at the Krugersdorp police station.

The pensioners’ handbag along with R6 000 cash were recovered from the suspects by police.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
