R50 bribe leads to arrest

Police rejected a bribe from a passenger who was in possession of counterfeit goods.

A man thought he could get away with a R50 bribe, but Tarlton Police would have none of it.

During a patrol on Thursday 23 July on the R24 in the Tarlton area police stopped and searched a blue Toyota Tazz. One passenger was found with a plastic bag containing DVDs, suspected to be counterfeit copies.

“Asking the officers to ‘look away’, the suspect offered a R50 bribe,” said Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police’s spokesperson.

But the 30-year-old suspect was arrested on the spot for possession of counterfeit goods and bribery.

He is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Lieutenant Colonel AM Molefi, Tarlton Police Station commander applauded the officers for a job well done.
