Hit-and-run victim knocked out of his shoe

Two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle, leaving one dead.

A casual stroll on Robert Broom Drive turned into a nightmare when a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident earlier this afternoon.

A man and his sister were walking along Robert Broom Drive at approximately 1pm when an unknown vehicle allegedly drove onto the pavement and hit the man from behind. The impact was so severe the man was knocked out of his shoe and found nearly 30 metres away.

The 30-year-old victim’s sister was hit on the arm by the vehicle’s mirror, which had broken off and was found on the scene.

A man who lives close to where the incident happened told the News he heard a loud bang, and listened if the vehicles slowed down, which usually indicates an accident.

He walked down to his swimming pool in his back yard when he heard a traumatised woman screaming.

He quickly made his way around the block where he found the victim who sadly already had died.

ER24 paramedics, Mogale City’s Traffic Department and Krugersdorp Police were called to the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

The Sector 3 Community Policing Forum was the first response team to arrive at the scene and later assisted in controlling the traffic flow and securing the scene.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and sped away.
