[VIDEO] Craft culture is alive

A local passionate crafter recently held a demonstration on how to use chalk paint and what the benefits are thereof.

Working employees by day turned into crafters by the end of the weekend after attending a demonstration on how to give your bleh-looking furniture a face lift.

Joan Launspach is a renowned crafter with her own teaching and working studio in Noordheuwel.

“I have been crafting for 30 years. I taught myself how to craft,” Joan said.

Joan explained that she is not naturally artistic, and she had to learn the skill of crafting. That is why she can easily teach another person the skill.

Chalk paint, a very versatile paint, is an essential item Joan uses throughout all her crafting. The paint dries quickly and it is dissolvable and sandable.

“It is made to facilitate paint techniques,” Joan said.

Adel Hindley, one of the guests, said crafting is a new hobby she recently took up. Initially she was scared to do any furniture upgrades herself, but now she finds joy in it.

“I painted my fridge red! My husband was quite skeptic, but now he is warming up to the idea,” Adel tells.

If you are young and brave enough to try your hand in the art world, Joan says you do not have to be worried.

“If you market yourself, then you will be successful in the art industry,” she says.

“You need to use every opportunity available to become visible and show your art to the world.”
