Hangers for hope – celebrating Mandela

A 67-metre clothing rail with messages of hope on each hanger will be the gift Cradlestone Mall wants to give to the needy by the end of July.

In celebration of Mandela Day 2015 Cradlestone Mall will have a 67-metre clothing rail in the main exhibition court. Their aim is to fill the length of the rail with clothing, shoes and blankets to be donated to those who need it most this winter.

Mr South Africa and Krugersdorp resident Armand du Plessis delivered an entire trolley filled with children’s clothing in support of this initiative.

Many children and adults who normally would be cold in winter will be kept warm by the initiative. According to Armand, it is a cause worth supporting.

Each hanger on the clothing rail has a tag on which donors can write messages of hope to the recipients of the clothing, blankets and shoes.

Benita Bothma from the Sonstraaltjie Training Centre kindergarten, where Armand completed kindergarten, helped Armand collect clothing for young children.

“We asked all the children to donate one piece of their finest clothing,” she said.

“When you donate old clothing, it doesn’t really matter to you. The children needed to give from their hearts.”

And give they did.

“The campaign runs from 1 to 31 July and the News encourages everyone to bring their items to Cradlestone and help make a difference this winter.
