Baby boy born at police station

A woman in her mid 30s walked into the Tarlton Police Station suspecting that she is about to go into labor.

“It’s a boy!”

These words must have echoed through the Tarlton Police Station’s Client Service yesterday morning, 2 July after a woman in her mid 30’s gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Letlhogonolo, meaning Lucky in Tswana.

Constable Lucky Matome, a police spokesperson said a pregnant woman walked into the client services at about 2am where she informed the members on duty that she called the ambulance as she suspected she was about to go into labor.

“While the police members were waiting for the ambulance to arrive she indicated that she was about to give birth and one of the Constables has Basic Ambulance Assistance training who then put his training into practice to assist the woman.”

Matome said the three members went beyond their call of duty in bringing a healthy baby boy into the world.

“The Gauteng Emergency Services arrived a few minutes later and confirmed that the baby was in a healthy condition and both the new born and the mother were taken to the nearest hospital for further medical attention.”

Captain Sam Nkhumane, the acting Station Commander of the Tarlton police applauded the members for going beyond their call of duty and for working as team in assisting the woman.
