Man (60) brain dead after alleged assault

Information indicates a young man assaulted another man in Krugersdorp West, leaving him brain dead.

Police are investigating a murder case after a sixty-year-old man was declared brain dead following an assault in Moorcroft Street, Krugersdorp West over the weekend.

André van Zyl, nephew of Sakkie van Loggerenberg, said on Facebook his uncle was attacked by a young man during the evening of Saturday 27 June.

Information indicates that he was assaulted by the man in front of his wife and grandchildren before speeding off in a white Nissan bakkie.

Van Loggerenberg was taken to the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit with serious head injuries.

Van Zyl said there was nothing more the medical staff could do for him and the machines were switched off since he was declared brain dead by doctors.

Community members said the man was arrested by police, but the News is still waiting for official comment to corroborate the information.
