Bending the limits

Maragon boasts with two gymnastic champs.

Two Maragon Private School pupils are bending their bodies and their limits by going for gold.

Gabriella Colandrea came in first place at the Provincial Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships which was held in Centurion last month.

Competing in the Level 8 Section, Gabriella achieved a first place with her floor routine, a second place on the Vaults and the Horizontal Bars and lastly a third place on the Beam apparatus.

Overall, Gabriella achieved a well-deserved first place, and was again awarded Central Gauteng colours.

Riccardo Colandrea, also participated in the Provincial Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships last month and walked away with Central Gauteng Colours.

He competed in the Class 3 Section where he achieved first place on the Pommel, the Rings, and the Horizontal Bar.

He also achieved a second place on the Paralled Bars and Floor routine, and a third place on the Vault with an overall first place for the competition.

Both Riccardo and Gabriella will be representing Central Gauteng at the South African National Gymnastics Games that will be held in July in the Western Cape.

Gabriella also went to Slovenia in May, where she competed in the Zelena Jama Open Junior Women gymnastics tournament. She described the competition as a good exercise to gain experience in competing at international events.

“We are proud of Riccardo and Gabriella as we know that these achievements come with hard work and hours of training. And in spite of this, they are both Top 10 Academic students as well,” comments Belinda Espag, Marketing Manager for Maragon Private School.
