Police van crashes through palisades

A suspects pushes police off the road causing an accident.

Motorists driving along Lagois Street in Burgershoop on 12 June noticed a police van crashing through a cement palisade fence.

Witnesses told the News the van not only drove through the concrete palisade fence, it also crashed into a tree on the Burgershoop Community Hall premises.

It is believed the police van was chasing a drug dealing suspect when they lost control of the vehicle.

Other witnesses claim the police van was pushed off the road by another vehicle when they intentionally drove towards the palisades in an attempt to dodge the street pole.

Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police confirmed that police were busy with an operation at the time of the accident.

“The vehicle pushed the police van off the road, causing them to lose control of the vehicle and crash,” Mashale commented.

The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene, hoping to escape arrest.

“Another police vehicle gave chase and arrested the suspect minutes later. The 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving.”

One of the police officers were treated for minor injuries sustained during the accident.
