Gunther Bühner, a school principal, was among the six people who succumbed to their injuries during a head-on collision on the N14 in Tarlton.

Principal of the Nic Diederichs High Technical School Gunther Bühner was among the six people who tragically died in a head-on collision on the N14 in Brandvlei yesterday.

Emergency services Netcare 911 and ER24 arrived on the scene where they found two light motor vehicles which collided.

Four people, among them two teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16, were still alive and injured.

A friend of Bühner and her five-year-old child were among the six who tragically died in the accident.

Chris Botha, a Netcare 911 spokesperson said paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, one of the wreckages was engulfed in flames with three people still trapped in the wreckage, which was later extinguished by the fire services.

“Some of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle and were found several metres away, two people were still trapped in the wreckage of the second vehicle.”

Russel Meiring, an ER24 spokesperson said paramedics assessed the occupants from the smoldering vehicle and discovered that three occupants had sustained fatal burn injuries and nothing more could be done for them.

Two other occupants were found to have sustained critical injuries in the collision.

He said paramedics immediately began their treatment on the critically injured patients, providing them with advanced life support treatment.

“Once treated, they were immobilised and transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.”

In a second accident a man and a woman were killed in a motorcycle collision on Ashanti Road near Lanseria Airport.

Meiring said paramedics found that the wrecked motorcycle had crashed against a sign board.

“Paramedics discovered that the patients, who were lying near the motorcycle, had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries.”
