Dynamix wants to curb substance abuse

"We also focus on the human spirit. Addicts are still people with feelings and we are not here to label them."

An informative session was recently held at the premises of The Bethany House Trust to inform stakeholders of the work an aftercare program does.

Social workers, psychologists and police chiefs were among the guests who were invited to an awareness initiative to be introduced to the work of Dynamix Aftercare, an aftercare program formed in conjunction with The Bethany House Trust and New Seasons Ministries in February.

The program aims to help West Randers with alcohol and drug addiction in the form of free small group sessions.

Pi Pretorius, a youth mentor at The Bethany House Trust said the program also places a focus on intervention, family support, aftercare and recovery.

“We help families to overcome the heartache and pain caused by family members who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.”

Gert Jonker, Chief Executive Officer of The Bethany House said they support the program as substance abuse is becoming the norm.

“Providing help to these children and people is close to our heart as it is something that is happening in our areas.”

Desire Harmse, New Seasons Ministries’ secretary for the Dynamix-group said that Dynamix is not a rehab facility but instead a support group who provides support to families and the youth.

“We also focus on the human spirit. Addicts are still people with feelings and we are not here to label them.”

Pi agreed and said they do not condemn or judge a person and treat them with respect.

“We try our utmost best to get them back on the right track.”
