[VIDEO]: Funeral home robbers strike again

After viewing video footage a maths tutor said he is certain the robbers are the same ones who robbed a funeral parlour almost two weeks ago.

A maths tuition franchise in Monument allegedly is the second business in less than two weeks to be robbed by the same suspects that had robbed a funeral home.

Video footage obtained by the News shows how three robbers gained entry to the Martin’s Funeral Parlour in Jorisson Street where they tied up employees before fleeing with cash and goods estimated to be worth around R20 000.

After viewing the footage André van der Zee, owner and maths tutor said he is certain the same robbers robbed him.

He and a 16-year-old student were at the premises when three men, one with a firearm, surprised them at 6.40pm on 27 May. The premises is about 50 metres from the funeral parlour on the same street.

André van der Zee, a maths tutor, believes the robbers who robbed Martin's Funeral Home almost two weeks ago belong to the same gang that robbed him and a student.
André van der Zee, a maths tutor, believes the robbers who robbed Martin’s Funeral Home almost two weeks ago belong to the same gang that robbed him and a student.

“The first thing I saw was the barrel of a gun pointed at me. They told us to sit still and be quiet,” Van der Zee said. Some time ago he had a similar experience at the premises of a former employer.

“I just told my student that he should remain calm and do what they tell us.”

They tied their arms and legs with cable ties before taking cash, cellphones and two laptops. Fortunately other equipment such as laptops already had been locked away before the robbery.

“They must have been busy for about 15 minutes before fleeing the scene on foot.”

This is the first incident of its kind since the franchise had opened its doors four years ago.

Van der Zee said the owner of the property ensured him that extensive security measures will be put in place.

The suspects who robbed Martin’s is still on the loose.
