Man (79) assaulted during robbery

The man heard his dogs barking and when he went to investigate three men gained entry by pushing him back inside his home.

Three armed men, who robbed a 79-year-old man from Koesterfontein in Magaliesburg last Thursday, are still at large.

Constable Gloria Maswanganye, a police spokesperson says the man heard his dogs barking at around 8.30pm and when he went to investigate, the men gained entry by pushing him back inside his home.

“He saw three men and got frightened where after he tried to close the door quickly, but they were already on him.”

Maswanganye said one of the suspects allegedly fired a shot towards the man, but he was not injured.

They then tied him up before taking goods to the value of about R10 200 consisting of an Apple Ipad, two cellphones, cash and a rechargeable torch.

“The victim was badly injured. He alleged that he was assaulted with fists and kicked while lying down on the floor,” she said.

“Neighbours heard the gunshot and quickly ran to the scene, but the three suspects ran away.”

Police was notified of the incident.

Maswanganye said they found two cartridges next to the door.

The suspects are still at large, but police are still searching for them.
