A popular restaurant in Muldersdrift almost completely burnt to the ground after a fire broke out.

Customers of Teaspoon and Tankard Country Inn Restaurant (Silverspoon Vintage Restaurant) will have to find another spot to wine and dine after a fire broke out on Sunday, 3 May.

The West Rand District Municipality Emergency Services Unit responded to a call out just after 11am to the popular restaurant in the Muldersdrift area.

Acting swiftly the firefighters arrived on the scene barely 10 minutes after the call out and immediately reacted by containing and later extinguishing the fire.

The fire was classified as a well-alight structure fire and the Watch Tower Fire Services (Jehovah Witnesses) in Krugersdorp was also called for backup at the scene.

The local Muldersdrift Fire Protection Association also assisted in organising a water tank for more water supply.

Firefighters were successful in saving the office and dormitory area as they managed to contain and extinguish the fire in time.

Unfortunately the reception area, living room and the restaurant were burned to the ground with very little left.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

“Since the incident an enquiry has been opened for investigation regarding the cause of the fire,” confirms Constable Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police station.

The owner of the restaurant could not be reached for comment.
