Alleged hijacker shot by one of his own

One hijacker, and not two, were killed in an alleged hijacking attempt.

One suspect was killed last night, 28 April, following an alleged botched hijacking attempt in Kenmare and not two as previously reported.

Henry Carson, Chairman of Sector 8 Community Policing Forum (CPF) confirmed that the sector was notified of the incident after 8pm which happened on the corner of Meath and Lismore Street.

“The owner got home when a vehicle blockaded his driveway, he immediately and with force reversed, hitting the suspect’s car. He managed to drive away.”

Carson said the damage to the car was to such an extent that the three suspects fled the scene on foot.

“They at first fired a few gunshots, which was also directed at the victim.”

Members of the CPF heard the gunshots and immediately investigated.

“The suspects fired a gunshot in the direction of another resident and a few towards the patrollers,” Carson said.

Somehow one of the suspects was shot by, what is still speculation, one of the other suspects.

“We found him dead in Biddy Street, the other two suspects were caught in close proximity from each other.”

Carson said he wants to thank his patrollers and the police for their swift work in catching and ultimately arresting the remaining two suspects.

A meeting to address the crime in the area will be held at the monthly meeting on 19 May at 7pm in the Silverfields Primary School Hall.
