Two alleged hijackers shot dead

The community of Kenmare is living in fear after yet another alleged hijacking attempt.

Unverified reports claim that two hijackers were killed in a botched hijacking incident in Kenmare last night, 28 April, while another hijacker was arrested.

Social media platforms such as Facebook have been abuzz with comments from mostly residents living in the area wanting to know what happened.

Jackie Coetzee posted that she heard three gun shots at around 8.25pm after which residents in the area commented the shooting happened on the corner of Meath and Lismore Streets during an alleged attempted hijacking incident.

Lizelle Kies said it happened right in front of her gate.

“I had such a big fright! It really is terrible to be living in fear in your own house!”

If this hijacking attempt is verified it will be the third such incident on the West Rand this month alone.

The News’ sister newspaper Roodepoort Record reported about an attempted hijacking on Ontdekkers Road in Horizon last Friday, 24 April, where two alleged hijackers were shot dead by another road user when they and two more accomplices attempted to hijack a vehicle.

Earlier this month Manie Lemmer, 26, was shot in his driveway in Garrick Street in Silverfields after arriving home from work.

Last month Thomas Cope, 67, was killed with a crowbar when seven men entered his home in Chelsea Avenue where the robbers fled in the family’s two vehicles after ransacking the house of electronic goods, clothes and jewellery.
