Alleged armed robbers face murder charges

Two suspects have been arrested following a murder and armed robbery.

The Kagiso police have arrested two suspects for a murder and armed robbery incident which took place earlier this year.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said police received a complaint of a shooting which took place at phase 5 in Tshepisong on 15 January and went to investigate.

“The police went to the scene swiftly and upon arrival they entered a shop where they found two Ethiopian nationals shocked and crying for their colleague who was lying motionless on the ground and bleeding.”

One told the police the bakery truck was making a delivery when the suspects attacked.

The suspects allegedly forced everyone into the shop robbed the deceased at gunpoint as well as the bakery staff. The shop keepers were robbed of cash and cell phones.

Sibiya said bakery employees were also robbed of cash, shoes and cell phones.

“The deceased was shot in the upper body and died on the scene – the suspects fled the scene on foot.”

He said police launched an investigation that led to some members of the community coming forward and assisting them with information that led to the arrest of the two suspects.

The suspects have appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court facing charges of murder and armed robbery.
