Mom busts son for unlicensed firearm

The suspect was arrested for an armed robbery last week.

Three youngsters were arrested after one of the suspect’s mother handed over an unlicensed firearm to the police.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said the mother, whose child was arrested for an armed robbery last week, became concerned and suspicious that he might have used the firearm that was hidden in their home.

She asked the neighbours to help in tracing her arrested son’s accomplices.

“The three suspects were traced and eventually tracked down. When questioned about the firearm the suspects admitted to have seen and handled the firearm,” Sibiya had said.

“They further told the mother the firearm was buried in the yard. It was then dugg out and handed over to the mother who handed it over to police.”

The police searched and arrested the suspects.

Sibiya said the suspects have appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They were remanded in custody for further police investigations.
