UPDATE: Children flung from vehicle on R563

Two people are currently in a critical condition following an accident this afternoon in which the Jaws of Life was needed to free the occupants.

Two children were flung out of an overturned vehicle this afternoon where the Jaws of Life had to be used to free two occupants.

Santi Steinmann, Netcare 911 spokesperson said when they and other emergency services such as ER24 and the Krugersdorp Fire Department arrived on the scene on the R563 Hekpoort Road opposite Laerskool Protearif they found that two children were ejected from a blue BMW during the rollover.

Lourens Coetzer, an ER24 paramedic on the scene said the driver of the vehicle said that another vehicle swerved in front of him causing him to swerve out of his way after which he lost control of the vehicle.

During the incident a 12-year-old boy were found to be in a critical condition and he was airlifted to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital by a AER24, an ER24 medical helicopter.

A 37-year-old woman was also found to have sustained critical injuries and another helicopter from Netcare 911 was dispatched to airlift her to hospital.

A 42-year-old man also sustained critical injuries and after receiving treatment at the scene and was rushed to hospital via ambulance.

A ten-year-old boy, a pupil from Laerskool Protearif was found to have sustained moderate injuries and after receiving treatment at the scene, he was also transported via an ambulance to hospital for further medical care.

In a separate incident four people were injured after two bakkies collided on the N14-highway near the Swartkops offramp this morning.
