Police search leads to unlicensed firearm

When police asked the suspect to produce a licence for the firearm, he was unable to.

A 26-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm at the Seroba informal settlement in Tarlton.

Constable Lucky Matome, a police spokesperson said the K9 unit of the South African Police Service was patrolling the area when they received a call from another unit requesting their assistance to search a certain shack at the informal settlement.

It is further alleged that during the search a 9mm pistol was found and when the suspect was asked to produce a licence for it he was unable to.

Matome said the suspect is expected to make a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
