Mother stabbed to death with child on her back

Four-year-old Lucky asks for his mommy after she was killed as he was tied to her back.

Mob justice was served on 3 January after police failed to arrest suspects who stabbed a woman to death with her child on her back.

The outraged community captured three suspects and necklaced them for the murder of Selina Tsike in the early hours of New Years Day.

Tsike’s partner, Erik Khaphathe told the news how she was stabbed to death by robbers fleeing from another crime scene because she did not have a cell phone or money on her.

Tsike, her son and her friend were on their way home from a religious gathering when the three robbers approached them.

Rumour has it that Tsike knew one of the robbers and asked him what he was busy doing moments before he stabbed her with her sleeping child tied to her back. It is alleged that three armed suspects first fired a warning shot before stabbing Tsike and her friend.

Her friend who was rushed to hospital has since recovered and is reportedly back at work.

Tsike’s four-year-old adopted son, has in the mean while gone to live with Tsike’s sister.

This is his third ‘mother’, as his birth mother mysteriously passed away when he was four-months-old and since lived with Tsike.

Khaphathe says although two of the three suspects have since past away due to their injuries and the third in police custody, the community is still unhappy as they claim that police could have arrested the suspects sooner, resulting in the community not taking the law into their own hands.

The police were informed of the whereabouts of Tsike’s killers, yet no arrests were made.

“I miss her very much. She was a friend, a mother, a sister. She was everything,” says an emotional Khaphathe who laid Tsike to rest on 9 January.

Tsike’s employer of 18 years, Dr Alf Levin describes the deceased as a loyal worker. He claims the four-year-old Lucky only started realising his adopted mother is dead on 15 January as he started to ask for his mommy.

Levin recalls the day they found out about the tragedy when they received a call early in the morning from Tsike’s phone.

Levin’s wife, who celebrates her birthday on 1 January, answered the phone excited as she thought Tsike phoned to wish her happy birthday, but was sadly disappointed.

“Sorry mam’ it is not Selina, I must tell you the bad news, she is dead,” said the voice on the other side of the phone.

The news awaits the date of the of the bail application of the suspect in custody.

It is alleged that the community of Munsieville met on Sunday 18 January to discuss the incident.
