A year of success for Sector 8 CPF

A wrap-up of a successful year for the Sector 8 CPF as they look forward to many more triumphs.

After a successful 2014, the community policing forum received a thank you message from the community on one of their notice boards.

The CPF Sector 8 area consists of Breaunanda, Factoria, Kenmare, Rangeview 1 and Silverfields and boasts a total of 391 members with 303 radios.

The Sector meets every third Tuesday of the month at Silverfields Primary to discuss the current issues affecting the area.

While analysing the past 12 months’ crime trends in these areas, CPF Sector 8 chairperson Henry Carson stumbled upon what seems to be a trend.

Although crime in these areas is relatively lower compared to the other sectors, the biggest trend is house and car robberies.

The metal-workers’ strike earlier in 2014 also caused some difficulty for CPF members because of the industrial area being part of the Sector.

During 2014 Sector 8 also had its very first ATM bombing.

Another trend was motorists racing on Voortrekker Road, which claimed a number of lives.

The Kloof that covers 50 per cent of the area’s border and where the Crocodile River rises is becoming a bigger worry for the CPF because of all the crime and pollution at this once beautiful spot.

In 2014 the CPF helped to recover five bodies from this area.

However, 2014 ended on a loud and disruptive note as residents failed to comply with fireworks laws.

“We thank the community for their support and involvement with the CPF – without them there would not be a CPF. Also thank you to all the security companies in our area for their help and support on scenes. We look forward to working with you in 2015.

“To the Krugersdorp Police who are working with us actively to clean up the community, thank you. Also to individuals such as councillor Anette Fourie and Sergeant Terblance for their support during 2014. But mostly thank you to the patrollers for all their hard work and dedication; you make us proud,” said Carson.
