Toy gun robbers arrested

The owner of a shop pretended to be fetching cash when he managed to contact the police.

Police arrested two alleged business robbery suspects. They are expected to make a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court this week.

Solomon Sibiya, police spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station says the shop owner was busy inside his shop when a customer called him for service.

“Two men wanted to buy cigarettes.”

As he was busy attending to them, one drew a firearm and pointed it at the owner, demanding cash.

The owner went to the back of the shop pretending to fetch cash, but instead managed to call police. When the suspects noticed the police, they fled the scene on foot, says Sibiya.

“Members of the community gave chase and apprehended the suspects. The police was called and the two suspects were handed over along with their toy gun.”

A case of attempted robbery was opened at the police station.
