When the police’s annual crime statistic report was released to the public last year September, Muldersdrift made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
This year an independent report by Crime Stats SA painted a whole different picture to the initial report of doom and gloom following a spate of murders in the area.
The decline in most subdivisions of crime might be owed to the hard work of the Muldersdrift Police or a growing community of block watches and forums.
Others are of the opinion that the private security company sector mainly contributed to the perceived decline in crime in the area.
There are also those who believe that fewer crimes are being reported in the area because people have lost faith in the police, making the statistics rather deceiving.
Regardless, officers at Muldersdrift Police Station enjoy a little more time outside of the crossfire this year.
Overall fewer cases of murder, sexual crimes, attempted murder and assault among others were reported.
