Two arrested for pointing firearm

The complainant was attending his neighbour's traditional ceremony when a group of unknown men suddenly appeared.

Two suspects were arrested on national Women’s Day for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing thereof.

Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson of the Kagiso Police says the complainant was attending his neighbour’s traditional ceremony when a group of unknown men suddenly appeared and disrupted the ceremony by threatening the attendees.

“The complainant tried to calm them down, but failed. He decided to leave the ceremony and two of the suspects followed him.”

Sibiya says the suspects allegedly grabbed the complainant and one of them then pointed a firearm in his direction.

“A struggle ensued between them as the complainant tried to disarm the suspect. The armed suspect managed to break loose and fled the scene, still in possession of a firearm.

“He (the complainant) noticed the suspect the following day and immediately informed the police who responded. They chased the suspect who later threw the firearm on a shack roof.”

The police managed to recovered the firearm, and then searched and arrested the two suspects at their homes in Sinqobile.

Sibiya says the two suspects have appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of pointing a firearm.
