Another woman attacked near hospital

Within two weeks of the last incident another woman allegedly was robbed and raped in an open space near Leratong hospital.

The Kagiso Police is very concerned about the attacks and rape incidents involving women wanting to board taxis at a taxi rank at Leratong Hospital in the evenings.

Within two weeks of the last incident another woman allegedly was robbed and raped in an open space near the hospital in Kagiso. The police previously warned members of the public about the dangers that lurk at the Leratong taxi rank and at a nearby bus shelter on Main Reef Road (R41) at night.

On Monday (7 July) at about 8.10pm another woman was robbed and raped near the taxi rank. Police is still looking for the suspect.

Police spokesperson Solomon Sibiya says some of the victims alleged that the suspects hid in the dark in the veld opposite the rank and watched their victims’ movements from a distance.

He says in the recent incident the complainant was waiting at the taxi rank when the suspect, wearing a black and white Pirates soccer jersey approached her.

“He advised the complainant to go to the traffic lights on Main Reef Road because she would not find a taxi at the rank at that time.”

As the complainant walked towards the traffic lights, the suspect followed her. In a darker area he allegedly grabbed and forced her into an open space where he robbed of her cellphone and raped her.
