A 28-year old suspect was arrested on Monday 24 February, the same night he brutally stabbed and killed a 48-year-old man in Kromdraai .
According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale, police following up a tip-off from a community member came across the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood at a smallholding.
“It is alleged that the deceased and the suspect were having drinks together earlier on the night of the murder,” she says.
“At approximately 8pm the men who both live on the smallholding went into a room where a neighbour heard them arguing,” she adds.
The neighbour allegedly went to investigate, walking straight into the knife-bearing suspect.
“He immediately fled the scene,” says Mashale.
The neighbour alerted the SAPS and emergency services right away, but by the time both arrived on scene the man had succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
While collecting evidence on the scene, police however received information about the whereabouts of the suspect.
“Investigating Officer Constable Mothopi together with the sector police proceeded to the address,” says Mashale.
“They tracked down the suspect, apprehended and arrested him hours after the murder had taken place.
“The suspect was detained at Krugersdorp SAPS and charged with murder. He is set to appear in court,” she concludes.
