Tip-off leads to unlicensed firearm

Kagiso Police acted on a tip-off from a community member regarding an unlicensed firearm.

A tip-off from a concerned member of the community led to the arrest of two suspects for being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm on 19 February.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station says that the police acted on the information and traced the suspects to Kagiso’s Madala Hostel at about 3.30am.

“Upon arrival at the hostel, the police searched the two suspects’ rooms. During the search, the police found a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine hidden under a pillow,” says Sibiya.

The suspects told the police that they shared the firearm and that it belonged to both of them.

“They were arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station.”

The suspects made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on 20 February where they were charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
