Gymnasts take on the world

Thirteen gymnasts will be representing their country after they excelled during a series of trial events that were held abroad.

Thirteen West Rand gymnasts and four coaches of the Visions Gymnastics Club will be representing their country at several international competitions in the next few months.

This follows a series of trial events that were held recently, at the end of which the South African Gymnastics Federation announced the teams that will be participating in these competitions.

Riccardo Colandrea from Krugersdorp and three fellow gymnasts, Cailin Bald, Gordon Shaw-Newland and Ruan Lange represented the South African pre-junior team for the first time in their young careers.

They competed alongside experienced gymnast Muhammad Khaalid, also from the club, at the Serbian International Event in Serbia.

During this competition Riccardo bagged a third place in the all-around competition, a second on parallel bars and a third on the rings.

Muhammad ended in sixth place all-around in his age group and secured a third place on parallel bars for his efforts.

With them were the two coaches Waldo Cottle and Adele Heine, who helped to make their competition a successful one.

“We are extremely proud of our gymnasts and their coaches. In addition, we are happy that we have such a big age group getting an opportunity to gain international experience. We look forward to excellent international results and wish these gymnasts all the best in their future preparations” says Adele Heine, the owner and a coach at Visions Gymnastics Club.
