Eldery couple tied up and robbed; burglars flee in their car

The two armed suspects are currently at large.

An elderly couple from Krugersdorp North are the latest victims of a house robbery that turned violent.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson, Tshepiso Mashale this is the third case of its kind following two reports by the NEWS on similar incidences in the area this month.

The 13 January edition of the NEWS carried a report about two families that were tied up while thieves ransacked their homes in Kathleen Street.

According to police the most recent victims – an elderly couple – returned home at approximately 2.20pm on Monday 27 January after shopping in town, only to find two unknown males in their house.

“The men were waiting for the couple and pointed a firearm at them as they entered the house,” she says.

According to Mashale they then forced the elderly woman to the floor and tied her hands with cable ties and wires.

They proceeded to collect household items such as a television set, jewellery and other electrical appliances, then loaded the items into the couples’ vehicle and fled the scene.

Police found that the suspects gained entrance to the house by breaking through a bathroom window.

Residents in the area are urged to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle, a black Volkswagen Golf 1 with registration number KYX 275 GP, and are warned not to approach the occupants.

“There is a possibility that the suspects might be travelling in the car. They are armed and dangerous, and anyone who spots the vehicle is advised to contact the police immediately,” says Mashale.

The case is being investigated by the Krugersdorp Detective Unit and anyone with information pertaining to the case is urged to call the 10111 emergency number.

“Residents’ assistance with the case will be appreciated so that we can make Krugersdorp a safer place for all to live in,” concludes Mashale.
