Taxi violence suspects nabbed

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with last month's taxi violence at Leratong Hospital.

The Kagiso Police have arrested two suspects, both aged 35, on Wednesday 9 October at about 11pm in connection with the taxi violence that erupted at Leratong Hospital last month.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya says that the police received a complaint of a shooting at the Leratong Hospital on 9 September.

“At the scene of the crime the police interviewed one bystander who allegedly witnessed two Dorljota Taxi Association drivers being shot at near the entrance to the hospital.”

He says that the drivers sustained gunshot wounds and were transferred to Tshepo Themba Hospital in Soweto.

“Police found 17 empty cartridges for a 9mm pistol and a projectile on the scene. The suspects had fled the scene.”

A month later the police got a tip-off about the suspects’ whereabouts and followed up.

“The suspects were traced and eventually apprehended at Kagiso’s Madala hostel and Soul City informal settlement respectively.”

They are facing two charges of attempted murder and have appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
