Angry residents to petition against water shortage

Residents from Noordheuwel and surrounding areas will start a petition after the water problems have not been sorted out as promised.

Angry residents from Noordheuwel and surrounding areas will be petitioning against bad service delivery after a spate of water disruptions in the area. The aim is to get as many signatures as possible.

The petition can be signed throughout the day on Wednesday 16 October at the Pick n Pay Noordheuwel Centre.

According to a 76-year-old resident, who does not want to be named as he is well known in the community and fears that his comments might affect his business, is fed up with the terrible service they as residents have been receiving for over a month now.

“The water supply is on and off, and it has forced me even to take water from the swimming pool, boil it and use it to wash my face.”

He says a week has passed since he has had a decent bath.

“This week there has been not a drop of water in my taps and my daughter actually has locked me inside my house because if I were to get out I would have caused chaos.”

He explains that he has phoned the municipality several times and every time he is told that they are unaware of the problem or gets cut off when he mentions the water problem.”

Another resident explains that they have purchased a pump so that they can pump water from their swimming pool to be used for basics such as the toilet.
