Man threathened with gun

A Kagiso municipal security guard was arrested after pointing a firearm at a member of the community.

A 25-year-old suspect was taken into police custody after a dispute broke out between a security guard and two members of the public, when the guard pulled out his firearm.

The incident occurred at the municipal office in Kagiso at 11.45am. The complainant and a friend paid a visit to their local municipality office to sort out some of his outstanding bills.

After queuing in a line, the security guard on duty blocked the complainant and his friend from entering the pay point.

“The guard told them that only one person was allowed to enter the point at a time,” says Kagiso SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

The comments led to an argument between the complainant and the suspect. The suspect then pushed and slapped the complainant before pulling out his firearm.

The complainant’s friend tried to stop the suspect. Another security guard jumped in and managed to calm the suspect down.
The complainant reported the matter to the police who responded swiftly and arrested the suspect on the spot.

A case docket of pointing of a firearm was opened against the suspect at the Kagiso Police Station and he is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
