Meet Thembisa’s multi-talented entertainer

“I am an artist, and I respect my craft. I do it out of passion. I’m an actor, rapper, vocalist, choreographer, event MC and photoshoot model.”

Karabo Makgano Seabela is a multitalented female artist from Kgatlamping in Thembisa who started acting, music, poetry and dance at age eight.

She was mentored and directed by Israel Matseke-Zulu (an actor, poet, singer and dancer) and began her career in 2014.

In 2015, she made her debut appearance on game shows like Jika Majika on SABC 1.

“I am an artist, and I respect my craft. I do it out of passion. I’m an actor, rapper, vocalist, choreographer, event MC and photoshoot model,” said Seabela.

She said she would like to believe she was born to be a superstar.

Seabela said her career was not her talent but rather her calling.

“I felt it as soon as I started attending classes.”

Seabela told The Thembisan she matured vocally through classes.

While attending primary school in Alexandra, she started to write poetry, which she later converted into songs.

“I went to three primary schools and three high schools. I ended up in Jiyana Secondary School, where I built most of my fanbase.

“I also had access to dramatic arts and dance studies as my major subjects,” said Seabela.

After she matriculated, Seabela took a gap year to find herself.

She ended up in the teaching industry, a journey she is still on.

Seabela said she was working on two songs.

She will drop some of her amapiano music created with Tropper, Emzet Emaweni Unit, Creative DJ, Siso, Emjay, Brusthibo and Khaeda.

On her journey in the entertainment industry, she faced several challenges, including scoring gigs and event organisers opting for male artists over females.

She said she took each day as it came.

“When it comes to the entertainment industry, I love that anyone can be creative in their own way.”

Seabela explained that she had not done much this year.

“I managed to host a beauty pageant for young and upcoming models. Miss Winter Glam will be held annually on Youth Day.”

She has performed at various venues, including Bela Chateau County Lodge in Limpopo, Kream and The Joint.

Seabela added her biggest highlight this year was her acting career, and she even rubbed shoulders with John Kani (esteemed actor, author, director and playwright).

During their interaction, she received advice on how to manage the industry.

“Musically, my biggest achievement for the year was my hip hop single Captain, released with Trooper, Matlocks and De Over T.”

Her role model has always been GP Maorange (born Israel Matseke-Zulu).

She said when she met actor Siyabonga Zubane, she resonated with him in so many ways for so many reasons.

“I always rooted for him because even when he started getting TV roles, he never looked down on anyone and was always helpful in preparing my monologues or dance pieces.

“My wish is for his soul to rest in peace.”

Seabela said she had opened an after-school programme for children in the arts in her community.

During the classes, she shares her experiences while allowing learners to find themselves in entertainment.
She is also the mentor for the Sesoko twins, a music sensation on TikTok.

She said that in future saw herself as a successful teacher with an arts foundation and hoped to become a sensational actor and musical legend.

“Keep knocking on those doors and working hard. Always keep in mind that you are the only one of your kind.

There has never been another one of you to walk this path,” Seabela advised youngsters hoping to break into the entertainment industry.
