Kempton artist touches lives with music

He teaches students of all ages and it fills his heart with joy when his students make musical progress.

Born and bred in Alexandra, Sakhile Ngwenya moved to Kempton Park in pursuit of his dreams.

His music journey started in 2017. This is after he lost his job, so he used his savings to buy a keyboard.

Sakhile started teaching himself how to play the keyboard and it wasn’t long before he got a compliment from his mother.

“That sounds really nice, I like it,” she said.

The encouragement propelled him to take his keyboard-playing skills to a new level.

Practical and theory work hand in hand. Sakhile understands this concept as he started attending Saturday music lessons at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he learned basic music theory, such as how to read musical notes.

With perseverance and practice, he released his debut single in 2020 titled For Alexandra.

His debut single is an ode to the place that raised him.

It was received really well by the classic music industry and was even added on the Classic FM playlist.

Sakhile believes in imparting his knowledge to others, which is why he started hosting piano lessons.
