Thembisa’s dance crew honoured with an award

“One of the reasons we believe that we won the award is because of the passion, sacrifice and discipline shown throughout our work."

Local pantsula dancers, popularly known as the Red Devils, received the award for best professional dancer/dancing ensemble at the Zinkomo Africa ceremony held on October 15 in Zambia.

The Zikomo Africa Awards recognises people and organisations making positive contributions and succeeding in a variety of fields, such as art and entrepreneurship.

The group’s leader, Solly Phahlamohlaka, said their primary goal in starting a dancing crew in ekasi was to assist their friends in finding passion, earning a living from their talent and avoiding the bad streets.

According to Phahlamohlaka, their efforts are beginning to bear fruit because their abilities are acknowledged outside the country.

“As local boys who are simply making a living by using our talents and doing what we love. No words could truly capture how we felt while attending the awards.

“As our name was called, we stood on the platform, realising that our efforts were finally paying off.

“One of the reasons we believe that we won the award is because of the passion, sacrifice and discipline shown throughout our work.

“Receiving an award has brought us more benefits than just winning.

“Aside from making us feel good, it has also encouraged us to continue showcasing our talents. The award will bring credibility and open doors to new opportunities.

“We hope to impress potential clients and boost our bookings, as the awards demonstrate that we take pride in what we do and that we do it well.”

The dance crew thanked the community who supported them.

“We would like to show our appreciation to every individual who has believed in us. It means a lot,” said Phahlamohlaka.
