Ivory Park entertainment group celebrates five years of success

Since its formation, it has enjoyed winning competitions, adding an award into its cabinet every year.

Gifted Souls Entertainment (GSE), a non-profit organisation from Ivory Park Extension 9, is celebrating years of success as an arts-performing group in drama and poetry.

The organisation was formed in 2015 by Xolani Sithole. It was formed to prevent and reduce teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse.

GSE was also formed to keep the youth busy and entertained while filling their minds with positive thoughts and developing their skill and their talents.

Since its formation, it has enjoyed winning competitions, adding an award into its cabinet every year.

Sithole said they believe that every child in the world is born with a gift, or has big and amazing talents, hence, the organisation is called Gifted Souls Entertainment.

“The organisation has been formed to demonstrate the abilities and capabilities of our youth in society. We are a performing-arts organisation, have been going to festivals and won our first award during our first performance at the Sello Sa Tlou Community Festival in November 15, 2015.”

Xolani added that what makes them stand out is that the members are well disciplined and professional. They explore and love discovering new things in art.

“Gifted Souls Entertainment is a performing-arts organisation with gifted young people. Its main objectives are to provide communities with services that are related to performing arts and collaborate with NGOs and NPOs who mainly aim to improve the quality life and standard of the community. The organisation aims to eradicate social problems which people in the communities encounter,” added Sithole.

“We therefore volunteer to initiate projects that will benefit the communities and NGOs who operate locally by showcasing our talent on public holidays or community functions that may take place. We clean government facilities, such as clinics, police stations and fire stations. We also promote programmes that eliminate crime and alleviate poverty by creating fund-raising events that will enable us to donate food and clothes to local communities,” said Sithole.

The GSE has won the following awards during competitions:

• First position in drama at Sello Sa Tlou Community Festival in 2015.• First position in poetry and second position in drama at Kagiso Community Festival in 2016.

• First position in drama at the Prison and Community Festival in 2016.

• Second position in poetry at Sibambisene Nge Zomdhabu Arts and Culture Festival in 2016.

• Second position in drama at Via Broom dance company in 2016.

“In November 2018, we won first position in drama at Impumelelelo Yama-Afrika, later in December, we were in the top three in drama and the group qualified to go and represent Central Corridor at the Ishashalazi Theatre Festival. In November 2019, we also qualified for Ishashalazi Theatre Festival.

“Gifted Souls Entertainment’s mission is to provide art for the youth and take them out of the streets by making sure that they invest in their time in their talents. Our aim is to bring the youth closer to promote a good quality life of every individual in the society. Protecting the best interest of the communities is another mission of Gifted Souls Entertainment,” added Sithole.
