The BR-V remain one of Honda’s core models in their SUV range and has been given an update. One of the first changes is the addition of LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights; this improves visibility for the driver and ultimately safety. Mid-range Comfort derivatives, all the way up to the Elegance models, now comes standard with rear parking sensors for confident parking manoeuvres. The BR-V model range also sees the addition of further soundproofing material which results in better noise insulation from the road and engine.
The Trend variant retains its comprehensive exterior colour-coding contrasted by the blacked-out B and C panels, wheel arch surrounds and lower protective trim panels. Also featuring on the Trend is LED daytime running lights situated below halogen projector-style headlamps. In all four corners, you find 16-inch steel wheels shod with 195/65 R16 tyres contributing to the 210 mm ground clearance.
Inside, the cabin has been adapted to allow for increased cargo space with the second-row bench featuring a 60:40 split configuration and reclining backrest. The third row has a 50:50 split configuration and can fold flat for increased luggage capacity. Anti-lock brakes come fitted as standard across the variants, along with dual front airbags, engine immobilizer, remote central locking and auto door locking. Occupants and expect electric windows all-round, air-conditioning and a four-speaker audio system incorporating Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
Comfort derivatives can be recognized by the 16-inch alloy wheels and also sees the addition of rear parking sensors. On the inside, occupants gain access to a fully automated climate control with roof-mounted vents between the front and centre rows. The driver’s seat benefits from height adjustment and a centre armrest. The BR-V Comfort also features auto up/down function for the driver’s window, power switch to allow locking and unlocking from inside the car, as well as a factory-fitted alarm system.
The BR-V model flagship, Elegance, features a new 7.0-inch infotainment system fitted above the climate controls on the facia. The full-colour screen displays images from the integrated reverse parking camera, a further addition to the rear parking sensors. The Elegance sets itself apart visually by including silver-hued front and rear bumper garnishes, chrome finishes on the door handles and side door protectors and front fog lights. On the interior occupants can expect leather upholstery and Honda’s Smart Entry system which allows for keyless unlocking and starting of the car without physically using the key.
The BR-V model range retains the 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder engine. The motor produces 88 kW and 145 N.m of torque. Although the Trend variant only comes fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, Comfort and Elegance models can be specified with either a six-speed manual or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Warranty and service plan
The Honda BR-V comes standard with a five-year/200 000 km warranty, and three-year AA Roadside Assist. A new four-year/60 000 km extended service plan is included on the Honda BR-V Comfort and Elegance models, and is available as an option on the Trend.
