New 4DX cinema at Emperors: Keep on the ride at all times

A night out at the movies will no longer be the same with the introduction of the multi-sensory movie-theatre

THERE is only one important rule when you’re in a 4DX cinema: hold on to your seat (and popcorn) for dear life!

EXPRESS had the pleasure of being invited to an exclusive pre-screening of The Mummy on June 7, a reboot of the classic now starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe.

Nu Metro Emperors Palace is the fifth cinema to launch a 4DX cinema, following in the footsteps of Menlyn Mall in Pretoria, Hyde Park Mall, V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and the Canal Walk in Durban.

A night out at the movies will no longer be the same with the introduction of the multi-sensory movie-theatre, which has 84 seats and officially opened to the public on June 9.

You think 3D theatres were awesome? Wait till you experience 4DX, which targets your senses by adding effects such as wind, seat-motion (where you’ll literally feel like you’re also falling into a collapsing mummy tombstone), water spray, scent and lightning.

During one of the scenes in The Mummy, we could literally feel ‘rats’ running up our legs! You literally become a part of the movie.

NU Metro’s managing executive Nitesh Matai with Bronwen Auret (Nu Metro marketing executive) and Nigel Atherton (Peermont CEO).

Nitesh Matai, Nu Metro’s managing executive, described 4DX as “cutting edge” in cinema technology.

“As one of our most popular cineplexes, Nu Metro at Emperors Palace is located within one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations. 4DX will give local moviegoers, and visitors wanting to experience this very unique and exclusive cinema outing, an opportunity to view movies on a whole different level. These world-class cinemas add a new dimension to popular blockbusters to establish a one-of-a-kind trip to the movies. 4DX transports the viewer to get as close to experiencing the action on-screen as you can get!” explains Matai.

Even the local ads are in 4DX and come with added water spraying so you feel like you’re rowing the boat with the SA team.

4DX is exclusive to Nu Metro Cinemas in South Africa. Driven by overwhelming public demand, this new 4DX cinema at Emperors Palace is the second such cinema for Johannesburg, the third for Gauteng and the fifth 4DX cinema in South Africa. South Africa has one of the highest densities of 4DX cinemas in the world and Nu Metro is also pleased to offer moviegoers the cheapest 4DX tickets in the world.
