Teams unite for a great day at karate tournament

Members of the teams that featured in the event dedicated their lives to training and perfecting their skills, and competed for trophies and medals.

Midrand Shotokan Karate (MSK) and stakeholders partnered to host a karate tournament at Olifantsfontein Community Hall.

The tournament sought to revive the spirit of karate in Thembisa’s youth.

The tournament featured 19 teams from all over the country, participating and engaging with one another in the spirit of karate.

Teams of junior, senior and veteran karatekas participated.

Spectators of the tournament unite under one common goal of hosting incredible karate tournaments.

Members of the teams that featured in the event dedicated their lives to training and perfecting their skills, and competed for trophies and medals.

Dalson Seanego of MSK said the venue limited plans for the day. The organisers did not foresee the venue would be to capacity.

“Because of the number of entries and spectators, the venue became cramped.

“For the 2025 event, we will consider a bigger venue with a suitable structure to have adequate seating for spectators.

“Because this was our first event in a long time, we expected a few hurdles. We will attend to these and will improve on them for our event next year,” said Seanego.

“Some considered the tournament a reunion, and we saw old karate practitioners meeting after many years.

“Old and new were all excited about the tournament.

“It was a wonderful journey and attendees are looking forward to our next event,” he added.

“The senior events had an extremely high standard in kata and kumite.”

Seanego said participants were excited about the event.

“Our expectation for the next event is bigger numbers and an even higher standard of karate.

“With this being the first event after a long time, there were criticisms from parents whose children did not perform as they expected.

“We noted all constructive criticism and will strive to improve,” he said.
