Local boxers bring home the gold

The Kempton Park Boxing Club boxers won big at the SA Junior and Cadet Championships.

The South Africa Junior and Cadet Championships took place in Nelspruit in December.

Three young and talented Kempton Park Boxing Club boxers participated in the cadet age group (12 to 14), representing the Gauteng Boxing Organisation at these championships.

All three boxers competed at the South African Championships for the first time and proved they were worthy of their selection in the Gauteng Boxing team.

Connor In’tveld competed in the 36kg weight division.

It was the most competitive weight division at the championships, and he gave a masterful performance in all his fights, easily beating his opponents to capture the gold medal.

At the end of the championships, he was awarded the trophy for the best boxer of the championships in the cadet age group.

In’tveld is now unbeaten in 23 fights since starting his boxing career.

Danny In’tveld competed in the 37.5kg weight division and was equally impressive as his twin brother in winning the gold medal.

He also dominated his opponents, making it no surprise when he was crowned the new champion.

Danny has now won 21 of his 22 fights since starting his boxing career.

Wilson Malema competed in the 41kg weight division and was the third boxer from the Kempton Park Boxing Club to win a gold medal at the championships and be crowned the new champion.

He was also impressive, winning all his fights by a wide margin and claiming the gold medal.

At the end of the championships, Malema and his opponent from the final were awarded the trophy for the best fight of the championships in the cadet age group.

Peter Armstrong, the coach of the Kempton Park Club, who was also the head coach of the Gauteng team, said it was because of hard work and dedication throughout the year that these three young boxers won the South African Championships and are an example to all sportspersons that they can reach the highest levels of their sport by training hard, having discipline, being dedicated and listening to their coaches.

The Kempton Park Boxing Club has reopened for the 2024 boxing year.

After a successful 2023, the club’s coaches and committee members predict the club will again have a successful year.

Training is every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00 at the Kempton Park Indoor Sports Centre.
