BSI identifies top two talents

The Balderstone Sports Institute identified two players from the academy’s Youth Development and Elite Development programmes as its players of the month.

The two identified are Fumani Masumbe of the Youth Development Programme and Sylvester Thejane of the Elite Development Programme.

Masumbe returned to football after overcoming a debilitating injury.

Fumani Masumbe, of the Balderstone Sport Institute Academy’s Youth Development Programme, was one of two players selected as the academy’s player of the month.

According to Roger King, the head of marketing at BSI, Masumbe’s recovery underscores his resilience and passion for the sport.

King said despite facing physical challenges, Masumbe consistently maintained a positive attitude, showcasing a remarkable mindset that is a testament to his determination.

“Fumani’s journey stands as an inspiring example of overcoming adversity, embodying the spirit of resilience and love for the beautiful game,” said King.

He said Thejane, a midyear addition to the programme, quickly emerged with standout talent, displaying immense potential on the field.

His leadership in the OBC Ubungani Cup squad is evident, positioning him as a pivotal figure in the team’s development and the upcoming December tournament.

“With his impressive skills and influential presence, Thejane will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the success of the squad in the upcoming competition,” said King

The OBC Ubungani Cup will be played between December 1 and 3.

The youth invitational football tournament will be played in Modderfontein.

Eight teams will take to the field – BSI Football Academy, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Moroka Swallows FC, Kafue Celtic FC, The University of Johannesburg, Norkem Park High School, Orlando Pirates FC and SuperSport United FC.
