Racers strive for victory at Kempton Park BMX Club

Kempton Park BMX Club hosted the BMX club and regional races, where riders from the age of four took part and competed for top honours.

Club and regional BMX races took place on September 10 at the Kempton Park BMX Club.

Riders of all ages participated in the races, competing for top honours.

The event started at 10:00 and concluded at 14:00, and bikers as young as four competed.

Rider Calan McKay spoke to Kempton Express.

“I have been a rider for three years and enjoy it.

“Balancing BMX riding and school is hard because at school, they give us a lot of homework, and sometimes, I unfortunately have to skip BMX and do my homework,” he said.

He said he had always put school before BMX riding.

Racer Manqoba Madida from Stay Strong South Africa also participated in the event.

He was recently in Scotland for a BMX championship event.

“The tournament went great but could have been better. Nevertheless, it was good to go and represent SA and make new friends,” he said.

Some winners from Kempton Park BMX Club included Jamie-Lee Ringrose, Christian Kaschula, Dominique Broughton, Callum Wheeler and Deagan McCullum.

Kempton Express caught up with Kempton Park BMX Club treasurer Linky Wheeler.

“Next month, we have the nationals in KZN and the third leg of the SA Cup.

“We will have about 50 riders from Kempton Park representing us in KZN,” she said.

She said the community should come out in full force to support BMX racing in Kempton Park.
