Ama 2000 FC win soccer tournament

According to Dalton Molepo, the Ama 2000 FC coach, the team feels good about winning the tournament.

The Imvuselelo Sporting Organisation, sponsored by HangAwt 1632 and Suzuki, hosted another soccer tournament at the Ground 11 sports grounds in Thembisa.

The tournament started on March 25 and comprised 32 U23 teams from various informal settlements.

The tournament concluded on April 2 after the tense semi-final and final rounds.

Ama 2000 FC ready for their final-round action.

The event was supported by local teams and community members, who came out in numbers to witness the spectacle.

During the semi-finals, Ama LoveDay FC from Thembisa played against Members FC and won 2-1 to advance to the finals.

The other semi-final showdown saw Ama 2000 FC from the Vaal face off against Lat Liga FC. The Vaal side took the win with two goals to one.

That saw Ama 2000 FC face local Ama LoveDay FC in the final.

The match ended in a draw, with both sides tied on one goal each, leading to a penalty shootout for the title.
The founder of the organisation, Thabani Masilela, said Ama 2000 FC won on penalties 4-3.

The Vaal team won the first prize of R50 000 and the Thembisa team secured second place to walk away with R20 000.

The final was an action-packed event.

“Second place also received a new soccer kit and medals. Sports development is our way to uplift the community. The tournament empowers the community with employment opportunities.”

The organisation hopes to create a platform for young people to show off their talents and be scouted by bigger soccer teams.

“We protect the youngsters against substance abuse by keeping the players on the field,” said Masilela.

He said it was a difficult tournament, but the team managed to take the trophy home.

“The players received a share of the first prize money, and we are ready to focus on our upcoming tournaments,” said Molepo.
