The local side hoped to gain a home-ground advantage and secure a win when they hosted Ambassadors at the Kempton Park grounds on Saturday afternoon.

Hopes for a 0-0 draw dwindled in the second half with an own goal by Kgomotso Mathebula.

Eddie Dista, head coach for Kempton Parl, said they could have done better.

“We had a few chances, but we were very flat in attack and we didn’t threaten the opposition enough,” said Dista.

“We kept it tighter in defence but going forward our attackers showed no hunger to get in the box and punish the opposition. In wide areas, we were very poor and I don’t even think we got in behind to get one cross into the box.

“Though with a tight game it would go either way and it did, in the end, we are to blame for our own costly mistakes.

“In the second half and just after we conceded, we tried to change it with some fresh legs to try to get something but our attack lacked commitment.

“It felt like we were playing to complete the 90 minutes rather than to play with good structure.

“I understand it’s a brand new team with new players that have not experienced this league before but we train better than what we displayed on Saturday. We can only move forward from this.”

The local side is scheduled to play against Vosloos United on Saturday at Vosloorus Stadium at 14:00.
